ETS Surcharge Update – Effective 1st January 2026
From 1st January 2026, the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) surcharge for maritime transport will move to 100% of the full tariff, marking the final stage of the phased introduction set out by the European Union.
The ETS surcharge was first introduced at 40% of the full tariff in 2024, and increased to 70% in 2025. This next step reflects the EU’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions across the transport sector and encouraging more sustainable shipping practices.
